The purpose of this seminar is to offer a new Mass setting which might interest you and provide some general music, with an emphasis this year on Responsorial Psalms. An additional theme of the Seminar this year, is Music for Weddings and Funerals. We will introduce and reintroduce appropriate music for these important liturgical occasions in the liturgical life of every parish. Whilst this is a specific topic, sometimes outside of the remit of parish choirs, all the music we will be offering will be suitable for use on Sundays and other occasions throughout the year. • The Seminar is open to Choir Directors, all Choir Members, Organists and Church Musicians. • We also welcome all who sing or play an instrument at weddings and funerals but who may not be directly associated with music ministry on a regular basis. A new directory for music appropriate for use at weddings and funerals will be launched by Bishop Niall Coll at the Seminar. It will provide suggestions for music for weddings and funerals as well as giving musicians and singers references for listening to and obtaining music. • We would ask all Choir Members, if interested in attending this Seminar, to please give your name, to your Choir Director. • For individuals, who provide music on other occasions, we ask that you contact the Parish Office, leaving your mobile number and email address as soon as possible. • The cost of this Seminar is €35 per person, which the Parish will be

Even in small things we find it difficult to forgive. We can bear grudges for years against those we consider to have wronged us, to have let us down, or to have treated us unfairly. This can apply to family members, neigh bours, friends and colleagues at work or in school. We often nurture bad feelings towards them. We avoid people with whom we have clashed or argued. We forget – or overlook the fact – that God continues to forgive us over and over again. Why does Jesus insist so much on forgiveness? It is because without forgiveness love cannot flourish and peace cannot exist between people. When we refuse to forgive what happens? We simply close the doors of our hearts to love. Nursing anger and resentment is the surest way to keep love out. The elder brother in the parable of the Prodigal Son is a striking example of this. He is someone who cannot f orgive because he has closed his heart to his younger brother and even to his Father. He never knew how much the father loved him too. It is in forgiving that we are most like God, our Father, and Christ, his Son. It is in forgiving that we bring healing to ourselves and to others, that we restore broken relationships and release the seeds oflovein our communities. It is in forgiving that we extend the reign of God ’s love on earth.

Thoughts on the Readings for the 19th Sunday August 16th 2026 Today in the Gospel, we have a continuation of last week’s story about the fee ding of thousands of people by Jesus in the desert. Immediately after the event, we are told that Jesus: …made the disciples get into a boat andgoon ahead totheother side, while he dismissed the crowds. Was there reluctance on their part togo?Cer- tainly there is the implication that the disciples were not too willi ng to leave the scene. They were en- joying the reflected glory of being part of Jesus’ ‘miracle’ and the enthusiasm ofthec rowds for Jesus, ‘their’ Jesus. They were basking in the reputation of being partners with Jesus. Yet, it won’t be very long before they will be hiding, even denying under oath, ever having had connection with him. Jesus himself, after having dismissed the crowds: …went up the mountain by himself to pray. In John’s ver- sion of this story he tells us that the people, after being fed by Jesus, actua lly wanted to make him their king. They, like the disciples, have totally missed the meaning of what has happened. Here indeed was a real source of temptation. Jesus could easily have convinced himself that here was a golden opportu- nity to get control of the crowds and ‘save’ them. They were so ready to follow him— it seemed. The world wasathis feet.
