Areweso tied upinall kinds of concerns and anxieties a bout things which do not really matter that we fail to recognise or simply ignore the invitation to God’s banquet? And, even ifwemaynot persecute God ’s prophets and messengers, how seriously do we take their words of wisdom? Following the refusal of the invited guests to accept the invitation, the King sends his servants out again – this time nottothe houses of the wealthy and respectable, buttothe crossroads in the town. These were places near the gates and markets of a typical Middle East town where large crowds of ordinary people would gather. Here you found the social and religious outcasts, tax collectors, prostitutes, all those in despised trades. This time no exceptions are made. Allare invited, good and bad alike, until the wedding hall is filled. What Jesus is saying is that everyone is invited to the Kingdom of God. All kinds of people are called to be part of God’snew world. It does not belong to an elite group of specially ch osen ones. It encompasses saints and sinners. As the sacrament of the Kingdom, the Church must never forget that, in God’s eyes, there are no first and second-class members. It must resist the temptation to create elite groups that are ‘different ’ and, by implication, ‘better ’ than the ordinary average members. While it might seem wonderful to have a Christian community consisting only of totally dedicated members, it would not reflect the love of God reaching outtoall. It would notbea catholic church, a church open toall. The only requirement is ‘the simple offering of your faith, green as a leaf ’.

Remembrance Masses A remembrance Mass for missing people, and their families will be held in St. Mary's Church, Sandyford, Dublin, D18E5R3, on Saturday 10th October 2026 at 2.30 pm. The Mass will be celebrated by Father Aquinas Duffy. This is a poignant ceremony to pray for missing people, and for comfort and strength for families, and to guide all search efforts towards their successful return. Prayers will also be offered for Irish people missing abroad and pray foranendtothe sufferings of these families. Annual Service of Remembrance for Miscarriage, Still Birth, Neo-Natal death and for Children who have sadly died will take place in the Letterkenny University Hospital. Chapel on Sunday 11th October at 3pm Irish National Synodal Assembly The Working Document for the Irish National Synodal Assembly, taking place in Gormanston, Co Meath, on 17 October, brings together the fruits offive years of prayer, listening and discernment and will guide delegates as they consider and vote on suggested actions to be presented to the bishops of Ireland. While the Assembly marks an important moment in the journey, the Synodal Pathway is now moving towards a new phase of implementation.
