The grace of forgiveness. Forgiveness is not easy. There is no more difficult form of giving than forgiving. For some people, forgiveness seems an impossible requirement, because of what they have suffered and the harm that has been done to them. How do you forgive someone who has done something terrible to you or to a member of your family? There are times in our lives when we are not able to forgive someone, especially when the offending person shows no sign of remorse or of wanting to make restitution for the harm done. Jesus, in today's parable of the unforgiving servant, is suggesting that God's tender, limitless mercy towards us is with a view to our own transformation. To really open our lives to God's limitless mercy is to be transformed by God's love into God's likeness. We all have someone to forgive and we all need to be forgiven by someone. Offering forgiveness to another will never come easy to us; it sometimes comes very slowly. Today's Gospel suggests that the more we appreciate and open ourselves up to the gift of God's limitless forgiveness of us, the freer we will be to pass on that forgiveness to others. Fr. Owen Joe.

It is a way of l iving. The parable of the unforgiving servant shows us the depth of God ’s mercy. We have received forgiveness far beyond what we could ever earn, yet we can sometimes struggle to extend that same mercy to oth- ers. Jesus challenges us to remember that the forgiveness we receive from God sh ould overflow into our relationships. Forgiving does not mean pretending that hurt never happened. It means c hoosing not to let resentment have the final word. As we pray the Lord ’s Prayer, “forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, ” may we ask for the grace to forgive generously, patiently, and from the heart .

This immense project ensures that St. Macartan’s Cathedral is now protected for further generations.
