The Priest must live only to become a saint
A book titled: ‘The Priests we need to save the Church’ is a crie-de-cour by the author
for real priests, holy men, to lead once again the Church of God - and to offer solace
and sure support to the flock of Christ that is lost and bleeding. The writer, Kevin
Wells, demands much from the priest who will ministe r today. He says “for far too
long too many wayward churchmen have profaned, insulted, and trampled upon a
sacred heritage that generations of hardworking, sincere Catholics priests built their
lives around. “We need faithful priests - not the lazy, repressed, social justice types
with inauthentic vocations who have packed the seminaries, dominated the
headlines, and sullied the reputation of the holy priesthood over the past several
decades. Until the parish priest lives only to become a saint, there will be no healing
in the Church. Until the parish priest embraces poverty and pours himself out without
counting the cost, the Church's sickness will worsen. Until the parish priest decides
to die for his flock, the Church will remain on life support. “We need real men today;
bold proclaimers of God's Word who are unafraid to preach the Catholic faith as the
blazing furnace of Truth that it is. We need priests who are willing to preach tough
homilies, hear daily confessions, commit to daily Holy Hours, and remain
magnanimous of heart through long, sometimes thankless 16-hour days. We need
priests to offer up their lives now so that the laity will gain a restored sense of
fatherhood. Such priests will become the story of our time. They will bring about
massive conversions and re store our Church and our culture.”

Priesthood Education Collection (19th & 20th September)
The annual Priesthood Education collection takes place at all Masses this weekend.
The proceeds of the collection go to the Diocesan Education Fund which meets the
cost of seminarians’ fees at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, and also contributes to
post-graduate studies of priests of the diocese.
Building Fund Collection (26th & 27th September)
The end-of-month building fund collection will take place at all Mass es next
weekend. The debt for the replacement of the roof is still ongoing. We ask for you r
continued support for the renovation project.
Artificial Intelligence and risk of dehumanization
The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church said in an interview that “it is
essential that artificial intelligence not replace human beings, nor be used against
human dignity.” Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk warned that “it is imperative
that human beings not become slaves to the fruits of their own culture, to what they
themselves have created.” “What artificial intelligence will never be able to do is to
love,” he added. “We must still become ‘human’ with a capital ‘H.’ And this h appens
when we contemplate the face of God or speak with Him. For we are made in the
image of God.”
Cork Scripture Group would like to invite anyone who is interested in Scripture to
join us for the following course. Cost: €50 for the entire course including workshop

Catholic Primary Schools Mass
On September 15th 2026, Bishop Fintan celebrated Mass at Cathedral of St. Mary
and St. Anne for all those connected with our Catholic Primary Schoo ls to pray for

Tea dance in the “Hut”
Gurranabraher/Churchfield Outreach Office will be holding their tea dance on
the 20th September in the Hut in Gurranabraher, T23 HD59, from 3 p.m. to 6
p.m. entertainment, refreshments, raffle etc, this event is free, all welcome,

Mass Cards available for all occasions
Mass Cards are available at the Parish Office for all occasion, RIP, Exams, Get
Well, Birthdays, Anniversaries, etc. – the intentions are included in Nine
Masses (Novena) celebrated each month in the parish. Each card cost €3.
Gurranabraher Meals on Wheels has been providing nutritious meals to members
of the parish for many decades. Should you know of someone (or yourself) who
would benefit from this service, contact Eliz/Brid on (021) 430 1037.
Community Garden Volunteering in St. Marys Health Campus every Wednesday
from 11 to 1pm. No experience necessary, all equipment will be provided. Contact
