Family of Parishes Event
The usual evening of reflection for those involved in the pari sh
will this year be open to the other parishes in our family of
parishes, Douglas/Rochestown, Frankfield/Grange, Turner’s
Cross. It will take place in the parish centre in Frankfield o n
Thursday, 22 October. More info later.
A parish of the people
Thankfully, Turner’s Cross is very much a parish of the people.
So many take responsibility to ensure we have a vibrant and
faith-filled community. We acknowledge the contribution of
people’s time and effort. It is a ministry of service on wh ich we
invoke God’s blessing. If you do not have an active
responsibility in the parish feel free to propose what you wou ld
like to do. We definitely need more people to join the Baptism
team and the Funeral team. These work very well during the
year but it can be a strain during the holidays.
Historic Moment in our Parish
Looking back over the last 12 months the shock of needing a
new boiler for the church stands out. We were 7 weeks withou t
heat in the coldest part of the year. The challenge of finan cingnd

the installation of a boiler was immense, the cost being
€30,000. Within three months this amount was raised, mostly
by large anonymous donations. At this stage these generous
contributions, together with several more modest sums,
deserve the most sincere and warm appreciation. You took
responsibility for your church/parish and this made all the
difference. Mile buiochas. May God reward you.
Thinking about being a Priest in the Diocese of Cork and Ross?
If you are between the ages of 18 and 40 and feel there is a
possibility that God may be calling you to be a diocesan priest,
then our monthly Discernment Group. Meetings may be a good
way to help you to discern this call. It is a gentle non-co mmittal
first step in the process which takes the form of a monthly
meeting with other men discerning their call. The monthly
meetings offer an opportunity for prayer, conversation,
fellowship and accompaniment. An experienced spiritual
director will also be provided to help guide you along th e
path. The first meeting takes place on Saturday September

Celebrating 40 Years
Holy Cross Church, Mahon is celebrating 40-years since the
establishment of our church. To celebrate this milestone, we
are delighted to host a Triduum, led by the Redemptorists on
Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd September
2026, beginning at 7.30pm each night.

A Gathering for Diocesan Alpha Teams will take place on Saturd ay,
26 September, from 10.00am to 3.00pm in Mardyke House. Existing
Alpha teams are warmly invited, and we would also encourage
parishes and Families of Parishes without a team to invite
parishioners who may be interested in becoming involved.
