This mornings’ gospel from MaƩhew is preceded by a great bold quesƟon asked by Peter; “What about us, we have leŌ
everything and followed you. What are we to have then?” Jesus said to him, “I tell you solemnly, Everyone who has leŌ father,
mother, brother, sister for the sake of my name will receive a hundred Ɵmes over and also inherit eternal life.”
“Many who are first will be last, and the last, first.”
Christ goes on then to tell the parable of the Landowner, the workers and the vineyard. This great parable tells us in a dramaƟc
way about the generosity of God. Peter and his companions took a very courageous step in life; they leŌ the familiar life of boats,
fishing, companions and many familiar places to searc h for a new life with the C hrist, the Messiah. The new life brought
happiness, fulfilment and many challenges. However from Ɵme to Ɵme there were niggling doubts and quesƟons hence the
quesƟon, “what about us, we have leŌ everything.”
The first lesson from the word of God today is that it is important to put words on our quesƟons. Raising quesƟons provides
opportuniƟes for us to learn and in today’s gospel Peters’ quesƟon provides the context for the great teaching on the generosity
of God.
The culture and society of the 21st century conƟnually reinforces the correctness of asking the quesƟon “what about us, we have
leŌ everything “.The culture of the day goes even further and ask “ What about me, what is my reward going to be “ The world of
achievement and success finds it di fficult to accommodate the generosity of God. Help us to realise that I do not have to earn or

We would be very grateful if on reflecƟon you might like to help out in our churches
in any of the following areas. Over Ɵme we loose some of our Ministers, so we are
appealing to all who feel able to think about and s ee if you could commit . We are
appealing in parƟcular to Secondary School students to become Ministers of the
Word. We have seen many of you, wonderful readers r ead for various occasions but
very few commit to reading at weekend Masses. It would help you become a more
confidant public speaker and also good for your C V’s in later years. There is a rota
system so it would not be every Sunday. Also for students in transiƟon or above if you
are a regular Mass goer, you might consider becomi ng a Minister of the E ucharist.
Training will be provided for both.
Ministers of the Word and EucharisƟc Ministers are needed in both churches. Would
you like to help out with church cleaning, C ollect ors in both churches and flowers in
S t. Mary & S t. J ohn ( speak to the S acristan re det ails . ). Please give your names to the
Parish O ffice with your contact details for all volunteers by Wednesday 30th. S eptember. “R ejoice with me I have found
my sheep that was lost.”

The C hurch will celebrate the liturgical memorial o f S t. Pio of Pietrelcina, popularly known as Padre
Pio, on next Wednesday S eptember 23rd his 58th anni versary.
The date marks the anniversary of his death, or his “birth into heaven,” on S eptember 23rd, 1968.
S t. Padre Pio will be remembered for his profound l ife of prayer, love for the E ucharist, ministry in the
Sacrament of ReconciliaƟon, and his witness of faithfully carrying Christ’s Cross.
As his feast day approaches, may his life inspire u s to deepen our prayer, trust in God, and pursue
holiness. S t. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, pray for us!

The annual collecƟon for the Priesthood EducaƟon Fund will take
place across the Diocese this weekend 19th/20th S ep tember.
This fund plays a vital role in supporƟng the formaƟon and
ongoing educaƟon of those serving in priestly and diaconal
ministry. In addiƟon the fund also supports the ongoing training
and educaƟon of priests in the Diocese. We are deeply aware of
the financial challenges many individuals and families fa ce at this
Ɵme. Nevertheless, we kindly ask you to support this important
collecƟon as generously as possible. Your conƟnued support in
promoƟng vocaƟons is sincerely appreciated.
ReflecƟon for Parents
How many Ɵmes a day do our children point out that
someone got more than they did? E nough, I'm sure, f or
us to know that today's Gospel illustrates a human re-
sponse! But our human ways are not God's ways. God' s
generosity is someƟmes beyond our understanding. But
imagine what a world it would be if we rejoiced in gen-
erosity and good fortune of others.C antairí Mhúscraí is a mixed voice choir based here in
Ballincollig and have a wide repertoire of music in cluding church,
classical, popular and showtunes. Apart from other performances we
sing in S t. Mary’s & S t. J ohn’s Church at the 6.00p m Mass on the 3rd
S aturday of every month.
We welcome new members to all lines, without formal audiƟon. Ability
to read music is not essenƟal, we just need singers who can hold a tune
and blend into the overall sound. We rehearse every Wednesday night
from 7.20 to 9.20pm at Ballincollig C ommunity S choo l.
Joining at this Ɵme of year is ideal as we begin to learn new music. See
you there!
The Irish C ancer S ociety is seeking compassionate
volunteer drivers to join our pool of drivers. As a volunteer driver you
would be bringing paƟents undergoing chemotherapy to the hospital
and back home for their treatment. GiŌing your Ɵme means that
cancer paƟents will have comfortable (one on one) transport to aƩend
appointments for their lifesaving treatment.
If you can spare 2 days per month, have a valid dri ving licence, and a
safe, reliable vehicle, you are the perfect candida te to make a
signi ficant di fference. The Irish C ancer S ociety will provide you w ith
training before you start as a driver for us. Y our generosity not only
eases the journey for many during a challenging Ɵme but also offers
comfort and support when it's needed most.

Thompson will give a morning talk exploring 'How to C reate a Garden
with Atmosphere' sharing insights from her long car eer in garden and
landscape design. Drawing on some of her most capƟvaƟng projects, Jo
will share how she approaches a landscape – considering proporƟon,
seƫng and structure alongside the richly layered, romanƟc planƟng for
which her work is so well known. The event takes pl ace from 11am –

S t Paul tries to put in words what C hrist means to him.
Gospel: MaƩhew 20:1 -16.
The vineyard owner hired five groups of labourers. E ach
subsequent group began work later in the day. When the owner
hired the first group, they agreed on a fair wage. At the end o f the
day, he called in the workers and began paying them , the last ones
first. Of course, the early morning crew saw the later ones geƫng a
full day's wage and excitedly anƟcipated a bonus for themselves.
When they were paid, they received only the negoƟated amount.

priest, then our monthly Discernment Group MeeƟngs
may be a good way to help you to discern this call. It is a
gentle non- commiƩal first step in the process which
takes the form of a monthly meeƟng with other men
discerning their call. The monthly meeƟngs offer an
opportunity for prayer, conversaƟon, fellowship and
accompaniment. An experienced spiritual director wi ll
also be provided to help guide you along the path.
