The “Vocations Monstrance” is part of the Church's ongoing commitment to promote and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The monstrance will be in various churches in the Diocese to encourage prayer for vocations and to deepen young people’s awareness of God’s call in their lives. Through prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, we ask the Lord to raise up generous and joyful servants for His Church. Vocations are born in prayer, sustained by prayer, and strengthened through prayer. Any parish wishing to have the “Vocations Monstrance” during these 2 weeks, please see Fr. Roy Brady at vocations@raphoediocese.ie . CELEBRATING THE WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY. Visit our Web for resources: www.nationalgrandparentsassociation.org - POSTER IN ADDITIONAL NEWS. DAY OF LIFE SUN 21ST JUNE. On this year’s Day for Life, Sunday 21st June, we reflect on the wonder of human life from the moment of conception. We remember how the LORD JESUS Christ Himself sanctified and experienced the beginning of life in the world as an unborn child, hidden in the womb of Mary. Mary knew that she was carrying the Son of God - God and man - as soon as He was conceived. John the Baptist leapt in his mother Elizabeth’s womb when Mary greeted her. Our Lady treasured our Lord in her heart and womb until his birth. To read the full bishops' message visit www.councilforlife.ie . When the storms of life surround us, Give us the courage to not be afraid. Remind us of our worth in your eyes, And help us to place all our trust in your guiding providence. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.” Holy Cross Church, Dunfanaghy Fr. Martin Doohan P.P Clondahorkey. Paróiste Naomh Fionnán 21ú Meitheamh 2026 - An Dara Domhnach Déag - A Reflection In March 2018, Fr Tony Coote, a 63 year old Dublin priest, was diagnosed with the dreaded Motor Neuron Disease, and died 18 months later. Before his death he wrote an inspiring memoir about his life entitled Live While you Can. It became an instant best-seller. The final words of Tony's memoir were: 'When the train stops, I will step onto that platform with hope and no fear.' The words 'Fear not' are the most frequent words spoken by Jesus to his disciples. In today’s gospel they occur three times. But what is Jesus really saying when he tells them not to be afraid? Certainly, he is not giving them, or us, the false assurance that we have nothing to fear. Down through the centuries, early disciples of Jesus have met with opposition from those who benefit from the unjust status quo. In recent decades, violent persecution of Christians has been on the rise. Speaking to diplomats on the 9th January this year, Pope Leo stated that ‘the persecution of Christians remains one of the most widespread human rights' crises today, affecting over 380 million believers worldwide. They suffer high or extreme levels of discrimination, violence or oppression because of their faith’. According to the 2026 World Watch List (WWL) report, the number of Christians suffering persecution rose by 8 million over the past year. In face of such opposition and persecution, Jesus urges his disciples not to allow their genuine fears to cripple them, but to continue to proclaim the truth of the gospel and witness to him publicly. He assures them that the truth that the powerful elites try to cover up will eventually be revealed: 'Nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known' (Mt 10:26). He reassures them of the Father’s love and care for them: 'Even the hairs of your head are all counted' (Mt 10:30). And he ends by making them this promise: 'Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven' (Mt 10:32). So we pray: Lord, grant us the courage to stake our lives on the truth of your word. Amen. Cuimhneacháin Báis John Cox, Ards, Creeslough, whose funeral was in Creeslough on Friday. We go to do together. The Sunday Mass where the Church is most visibly alive, and where every member of the community plays an essential role, their participation is needed for the Church to truly live. We are deeply thankful to priests, ministers and all those who celebrate Mass. Special gratitude goes to those involved in liturgical ministries, those who assist in the Word, of Holy Ministers, Sacristans, and Altar Servers. Encouraging the number of people as Altar Servers is especially important and should be actively supported by their families and parish. Upcoming Fundraising Events - Sandra's Run: We are the organisers (parents of Sandra's McCormick Run and we are going through the 1st stop to Froses on 4th July. Day for Life Today, Sunday 21st June the Church across Ireland celebrates Day for Life in the Humanity of the Unborn Child which invites us to reflect on the wonder of human life from the moment of conception. We remember how the Lord Jesus Christ Himself sanctified and experienced the beginning of life in the womb of Mary, Mary knew that she was carrying the Son of God – God and man – as soon as He was conceived. John the Baptist leapt in his mother Elizabeth’s womb when Mary greeted her. Our Lady treasured Our Lord in her heart and womb until His birth. To read full bishops’ message visit councilforlife.ie Thought for the Day “O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of living hope, you are the extent of life. Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are met difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick children burdened under much suffering and social mercy. Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with courage and love to the people of our time. Colm I will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving this Sunday 28th June 1.00pm to mark the Golden Jubilee of my Ordination. I feel very blessed to be granted the gift of twenty years in priestly ministry, made possible through the grace of God, the support of others, good health and my own humble efforts. The friendship and generosity of parishioners, family, friends and fellow priests and those in Killybegs for 23 years has been such a great blessing. My constant companion for nearly 17 of those years was the late Charlie Boyle who made me feel so much at home in this parish. I am eternally grateful to Charlie. I was so energized but also involved in different ministries and communities, in the schools and in the parish. The Sunday Masses are always a weekly highlight with the participation of all generations, including the young and the Parish Choir. Christmas and Easter were always so memorable. The enthusiasm, generosity and expertise of all involved in the restoration of the Church building were overwhelming. Parish Secretary Ann O’Donnell has been invaluable for her cheerful presence and as a friend and parish Sacristan Patricia O’Boyle has been ever reliable on the altar. It is a privilege to serve in this parish in the midst of all the joy and sorrows, the challenges and opportunities. Having been ordained on the 27th June 1996, I spent 8 years with the Irish Chaplaincy in Britain, serving in four different London parishes and on my return home for 6 years in Milford and Killybegs. I have so much to be grateful for. After the Mass of Thanksgiving, there will be refreshments in Foresters Hall and everyone is welcome. A Word from Ann, our Parish Secretary On behalf of the Parish I would like to send our warmest congratulations to Fr. Colm on the occasion of his Golden Jubilee, celebrating 50 years of priesthood, the last 23 years here in Killybegs. Thank you for your kindness, compassion and unwavering dedication to the parish community. Wishing you good health and happiness and many more years of ministry. A Blessing for Priesthood by John O'Donohue May the blessings released through your hands Cause windows to open in darkened minds. May the sufferings your calling brings Be but winter before the spring. May your solitude be a voyage Into the wilderness and wonder of God. May you find worlds full of divine warmth To clothe the shining in the fragile day dawn. May the slow light of the Eucharist Be a sheer shelter around your future. These prayers are not inconsequential pious throw-aways – they are an expression of our union with Christ, praying as the Body of Christ in response to the Word of God – praying through him, with him and in him – which is why the prayers are ordinarily made (though not bindingly prescribed) as an addressed to God the Father. The Church asks that this prayer be relatively short, as opposed to long winded paragraphs, and that they should ordinarily be prayers that gather the whole Church and World into the intentions of this congregation gathered for this Mass on this Sunday. These prayers, therefore, are not ordinarily a moment to be specific about a given private or very local issue. For example, while we might pray for good weather for the farming community to do its important business, we wouldn’t be so specific as to pray that Farmer John gets his farming work done. Of course, anyone who knows our local Farmer John can include him in their participation in the prayer – the prayer spoken from the Ambo is usually more wide ranging rather than specific. Exceptions are permitted by the Church when the congregation is gathered for a specific ceremony or celebration: Funerals, Confirmations, Weddings etc. For the Prayers of the Faithful the Church has guidelines to follow. The order of the prayers is usually: for the needs of the Church, for public authorities and the Salvation of the whole world; for grave difficulties that afflict people and even nations; then finally for the local community. At the end of each prayer the acclamation is spoken: “Lord hear us!” The congregation replies: “Lord, graciously hear us!” We call out to God, confident that he will hear us. We are encouraged by the Word of God which we have recounted to us something of God’s past interventions with the human race; especially in sending His Only Begotten Son, Jesus. In effect, in faith we are presenting him the difficulties that afflict our present world asking him to intervene with his grace, power, mercy and love as we know he has done in the past, especially as we have heard from the Sacred Scriptures. So, the Bidding Prayers are no mere formality. They are meant to be heartfelt pleas to God the Father, made IN the Holy Spirit, BY us, THROUGH Christ Jesus. In faith we call out: “Lord graciously hear us!” Parish of Newtowncunningham & Killea Email: office@newtownkilleaparish.ie Website: www.newtownkilleaparish.ie Sunday Collections: €1485; Retired Clergy: €390. However, over the years, times and days have been changed to accommodate people and situations. We are presently undertaking a review of the Adoration times and days in all three parish churches. You might let Fr Kelly or any members of the Parish of Raphoe Committee know your ideas. When we have listened to your ideas we will be in a much better position to make the right decisions regarding Adoration in the parish of Raphoe. Every hour is in itself a commitment and so all the adorers have to make good commitment. It seems nowadays people do not like making such commitments. So please pray about this and let Fr Kelly or anyone on the Parish of Raphoe Committee know your thoughts on Adoration in our parish. Vocations Monstrance (Blessed by Pope Leo) in the Diocese of Raphoe from 21st to 4th July The “Vocations Monstrance” is part of the Church’s ongoing commitment to promote and foster vocations to the priesthood and to religious life. Through prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, we ask the Lord to raise up generous and joyful servants for His Church.
