Follow in Love The first big moment of vocation is baptism. The anointing of chrism at baptism might be called the anointing for vocation. The baptismal vocation is for witness, love and service. This is expressed in ways in which people live out their baptism in married life, single life - and within the single life, maybe religious life or priesthood. Our active witness is to the life and the values of Jesus in our lives. Teaching is not itself a vocation, for example, but the way we teach is a way of living out our vocation. It is the same with many of the helping professions and employments. Being a good neighbour can be a living out of our vocation. We witness to love in marriage, in family, extended family, and in friendship. Any love is a sharing in the love of God. In the moments of selfless love in any relationship, we are living out our vocation. When we love, we are doing God’s will! We witness to service in the wider world in our care for the poor and in welcoming the stranger: the widow, the orphan, the immigrant - in fact anybody needy. CatholicIreland.net Diocesan Vocations Prayer God, our Father, at the very beginning of your Church your Son Jesus chose twelve apostles to continue the work he had begun. By the power of your Holy Spirit, they continued to bring the Good News of your love to our world. Send that same Holy Spirit into the hearts of those you are calling to serve as priests for your people in our diocese. Fill them with your gifts of wisdom, understanding, piety and knowledge as they discern your will. Give them the gifts of right judgement and courage in following their calling. Through the outpouring of your grace may many come to the joy of knowing and responding to the invitation of Jesus to “Come, Follow Me!” Amen. The annual parish census captures valuable information about the numbers, ages, and gender of people attending Mass. This information helps the Diocese and parishes to identify pastoral priorities, make plans to address them, and provide support for our faith communities. As you arrive at Mass, you are given a small counter for yourself and for each person in your family group and are asked to place the counters in baskets labelled according to age. Red counters for females and blue counters for males. The baskets are labelled with bands and the number of counters for each age band are recorded after each Mass. Thank you for your patience and co-operation. Liturgical "Sign of Peace" The Sign of Peace remains an integral part of the celebration of the Eucharist and has been reintroduced as a normal practice across the Diocese. The customary expression of the Sign of Peace in Ireland is a handshake. However, other non-contact forms of the sign of peace such as a nod, a bow or a smile are also legitimate expressions of the Sign of Peace. No offense should be taken if someone prefers to express a non-contact Sign of Peace. The Diocese encourages all to continue to exercise good hygienic practices, and if you exhibit flu-like symptoms, you are encouraged to remain at home. Text PORTAFERRY AND BALLYGALGET BAPTISM MINISTRY Our newly commissioned Parish Baptism Team is a voluntary ministry that supports parents, families and Priests as they prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism. Central to their role is ensuring that every family experiences their Parish as a place of genuine welcome and encouraging faith within the home beyond the day of their Baptism. Our Baptism Ministers will help parents understand the meaning of the Rite and what it involves by: - Welcoming parents and children into the Parish community. - Providing a preparation session for parents (and Godparents if they wish to attend). - Offering guidance on the symbols, prayers and commitments involved in the Sacrament. - Helping parents participate more fully in the celebration on the day of Baptism. May the time of preparation for Baptism be filled with peace, gratitude, and the loving presence of God in our families. (Micah 6:8) DATES FOR YOUR DIARY PRAYER FOR DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY O God of infinite mercy, on this Divine Mercy Sunday, we come before You with humble hearts, trusting in Your boundless love, Through the passion, death, and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ, You have opened the floodgates of mercy for all humanity. We pray with the words you gave to St. Faustina: "JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU." Grant us the grace to accept Your mercy, to share it with others, and to live as instruments of Your peace. Forgive our sins, heal our wounds, and draw us closer to Your Sacred Heart. Bless the world with Your compassion, especially those who suffer, those who doubt, and those who have strayed. May Your Divine Mercy renew the earth and lead all souls to the joy of Your eternal kingdom. We offer this prayer through Christ our Lord, in union with the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen!
