PARISH of Aghagallon & Ballinderry Welcome to Fr Jim Crudden who will be covering all weekend Masses Parish Census Thank you to everyone who took part with our volunteers in the count of attendees at each of the Masses last weekend. The total number with the comparison of last year's figure is detailed below. Year

Total attendance St Patrick's Girl Guides will be having a door collection after all weekend Masses. Adoration Beginning on Wednesday 27th May to September. Adoration will end at 6pm. There will be no adoration from 8pm-10pm. Cemetery Sunday Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with Cemetery Sunday this year. Baptisms At least one month's notice is required. To book a baptism parents/guardians must present the child's long birth certificate, complete the baptism request form, meet with one of our Baptism team and attend weekly Mass during the month prior to the date of the Baptism. If parents cannot commit to the preparation, the Baptism will be rebooked to a later date. Weddings must be booked by the couple themselves. Couples are required to give at least six months' notice of marriage to ensure the preferred date is available and that there is adequate time to complete all Civil and Church paperwork. Parish of Ballymoney & Derrykeighan CAUSEWAY FAMILY OF PARISHES 17th May 2026 Ascension of the Lord LEADS THE WAY At first glance, the Ascension seems like a sad day — Jesus rising above the clouds and leaving his apostles behind. Even they stood bewildered, unsure whether to grieve or rejoice. But the Ascension is actually a great feast, because Jesus didn't abandon us. He turned not his back on us, but his face toward heaven — inviting us to follow him in the same direction. Think of a great procession: everyone moving together, heading the same way, full of prayer and celebration. That's exactly what Jesus invites us into. He has gone ahead to open the doors of heaven and welcome us in. And wonderfully, being God, he can lead the way while also walking right beside each one of us — all the way home.

The 5 day course is especially for young people who want to improve their voice and music skills. Introduction A novena prepares us ever nine days to receive the graces of God special to a feast. In this Sacred Heart novena, the grace we ask is to know personally the love of God in the heart of Christ. The Novena to the Sacred Heart takes place from 4–12 June 2026. Many churches celebrate this novena, or at least pray the novena prayer. During the nine days, we renew our love of the heart of Jesus, who loved us first. Each day, this novena presents a short piece of Scripture followed by a meditation, a reflection and a prayer. She pointed at a chair and said, 'If he was here he would be there.' He never moved far! Jesus - he is here and there. The risen lord has moved on, but he has not fully left us. His Spirit dwells in us. The one who came to earth has now gone back to heaven, bringing with him all that is human. His body - the man of heaven and the God of earth - is now the church, and that's us.
Before we are of any denomination or group, we are Christ's. We are baptised into the church of Christ; and yes, we live out our faith in different denominations. Today is the feast of the whole church - we begin in him and end in him, like the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, on the paschal candle. Our faith is also renewed through living with Jesus - we are partners in our mission. Our faith is also renewed in reading and praying the gospel each day. On earth we are his body, with all our strengths and weaknesses, goodness and sin. Icons have Jesus smiling as he reaches heaven, smiling on us and living through us. We prepare for the way he is with us now next Sunday - in the Spirit. Where the qualities of the Spirit are alive, he is alive and well among us. A breathing prayer - as you breathe in notice you are breathing in the gift of life from God. The anointing of chrism at baptism might be called the anointing for vocation. The baptismal vocation is for witness, love and service. This is expressed in ways in which people live out their baptism in married life, single life - and within the single life, maybe religious life or priesthood.
Our active witness is to the life and the values of Jesus in our lives. Teaching is not itself a vocation, for example, but the way we teach is a way of living out our vocation. It is the same with many of the helping professions and employments. Being a good neighbour can be a living out of our vocation. We witness to love in marriage, in family, extended family, and in friendship. Any love is a sharing in the love of God. In the moments of unselfish love in any relationship, we are living out our vocation. When we love, we are doing God's will! We witness to service in the wider world in our care for the poor and in welcoming the stranger: the widow, the orphan, the immigrant- in fact anybody needy. They have become a lovely space for conversation, connection, and community spirit and have received very positive feedback. We now want to form a pool of volunteers to help organise and run the coffee mornings as and when required. We would welcome your input at whatever level you think you can best help. It doesn't have to be every coffee morning. We will need individuals to organise and co-ordinate coffee mornings and others to volunteer to help on the day. This will include setting up, welcoming people, serving tea and coffee, and tidying up afterwards. (This may suit organisations and groups within the parish who would like to promote what they are doing.) To know the joy of God’s love and make the love of God known to all Thank you sincerely to everyone who supported and contributed towards our Belfast Marathon relay team in aid of Mary’s Meals, we raised the remarkable total of £6,429, which is a truly staggering amount and greatly appreciated. Thankfully, my legs have just about recovered! You will notice that work on the new lighting in the church is now well underway and we look forward to seeing everything fully illuminated in the weeks ahead. As with any major project, it will take a little bit of time for everything to settle fully into place, but already the difference is very encouraging. We also look forward to our First Holy Communion celebrations next Saturday. Please keep all of the children and their families in your prayers at this special time.
