The Lord was pleased that King Solomon should have prayed for wisdom, with which he might govern his people well, rather than for either wealth or the lives of his enemies. God was delighted with this choice and bestowed on him "a heart wise and shrewd as none before you and none will have after you.” Second Reading Rom 8:28 -30 If you want to know what a lively faith in Jesus looks like this passage from St Paul, along with next Sunday’s great hymn to God’s love (Rom 8), are good examples. Paul is certain that the Holy Spirit works unceasingly to weave the events of his life into making him into a true image of the Son. Please note: There will be NO 10AM Mass on Wednesday 15th or 2nd July Seeds of God ’s Promise The 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to think about how God ’s word works in our lives. Each reading uses simple images from the world around us. Rain, seeds, soil, and harvest all show how God ’s word brings life and hope. These readings remind us that God always works with purpose. In Isaiah, we hear how God ’s word is like rain that makes the earth fruitful. Paul tells us in Romans that creation itself longs for freedom and shares in our hope. In the Gospel, Jesus uses the parable of the Sower to teach us that our hearts must be ready to receive God ’s word. On the 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A, these passages come together to remind us that God ’s plan is certain. His word nourishes us, even when life feels dry or hard. With open hearts, we can grow strong in faith and bear much fruit. Fourth Sunday of Advent Sunday 21 December Christmas Message 2025 This week we will celebrate Christmas Day. The birth of Jesus Christ, over two thousand years ago, was a pivotal moment in the lives of many people at that time, and ever since. In a sense, we join the Angels, the Shepherds, and the Wise Men who rejoiced with Mary and Joseph at the birth of the long awaited Saviour of the world. We join the apostles and the disciples - men and women - who knew Jesus personally, who walked with Him and worked with Him in those early days of spreading the Good News of God's love for us in sending His Son among us. We join all those who, down the years and right up to our own time, have lived up to their baptismal promises to be God's people, living and handing on the faith to the generations coming behind them. As we gather with family, friends, neighbours, and fellow parishioners for Christmas Mass and other celebrations, let us pledge ourselves to be a people of Faith, Hope, and Love in a world which needs the presence of Jesus Christ - through our care, our words, and our actions - now more than ever before. What would you do if you discovered a hidden treasure worth more than you could ever imagine? Jesus tells us that the Kingdom of Heaven is exactly like that. The man who finds the treasure and the merchant who discovers the pearl of great price both sell everything —not reluctantly, but joyfully — because they know that what they have found surpasses everything they are leaving behind. The Christian life is often seen as a list of sacrifices, but today's Gospel offers a different perspective. Following Christ is not first about what we lose; it is about what we gain. When we truly encounter the love, mercy and friendship of Jesus, everything else begins to find its proper place. One of the clearest signs of what we truly treasure is the time we willingly spend in its presence. We make time for the people we love. If Christ is truly the Pearl beyond all price, then we will naturally desire to spend time with Him —in prayer, in the Eucharist, in His Word, and in the quiet moments of each day. The amount of time we spend with someone is often the clearest indication of how much we value that relationship. This week, let us ask ourselves: What —or whom—am I giving my time to? May we have the wisdom to recognise Christ as the Pearl beyond all price and the courage to place Him above everything else. A short reflection on today’s Gospel Matthew 13: 24-43 In today's Gospel, Jesus reminds us that God's kingdom grows quietly and patiently. Through the parables of the weeds among the wheat, the mustard seed, and the yeast, He teaches that good and evil often exist side by side in our world and even within our own hearts. Rather than acting with haste, God shows remarkable patience, giving every person the opportunity to repent and grow in holiness. The tiny mustard seed becomes a great tree, and a small amount of yeast transforms the whole batch of dough. In the same way, even the smallest acts of faith, kindness, forgiveness, and prayer can have a profound impact when entrusted to God. We may not always see the fruits immediately, but the Lord is always at work. As we continue our journey of faith, may we trust in God's timing, persevere in doing good, and allow His grace to transform our lives from within. Then, as Jesus promises, "the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father."
